Name of guest: Dan Lok
Dan’s belief is one’s environment is more powerful than his will power. When he migrated to Canada with family his mind-shift changed. He believes in a saying “show me your friends and I’ll show you your success path.”
Dan was an opportunity seeker, always motivated and inspired. So he got interested in lots of personal development trainings like Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, he listened to all motivated speakers. He worked for different people and on different projects, but he thinks that finding great mentors was the answer for him. Alan Jacks was his first mentor, Alan ran a successful business in Canada and he taught him marketing, and skills which he could use to add value to the marketplace.
Advice on using money:
Money does give you more choices, but when you have the power to make money and adding a difference to marketplace, it is something more wonderful. If you love doing something, only then you can make more money from it.
Most entrepreneurs have the fear of success. Because they don’t know how the success is like, they don’t know how to handle success. Dan thinks when you stop setting goals and focus more on fulfillment, you achieve more!
Making money should be more about changing others’ lives, building a legacy and that’s why he started his podcast as well. Giving back, spending more time with family, and when he shifted and focused more on others, his business grew much better than before.
When you project all your energy on others instead on yourself, you shine even more.
The interactions and quality of people he learnt from and connected to be much more powerful than making money.
Advice on Success:
Everybody wants success and to be rich but they don’t want to give up anything for it. In other words, people want to get success but they are not willing to sacrifice or to put the extra hours and make mistakes. Dan thinks that people want to go to webinars and listen to motivational CDs and podcasts and they feel like they’re doing something and going towards their goal. But in fact they’re not because if you want to do succeed, you have to take massive action and implement what you’re learning.
Tips on networking:
o If you’re going to attend an event, most people go there to pitch something. They are product pushers. Instead you should ask people more about them, their projects, get interested in their lives and work
o Ask people, “how can me and my work can bring value to one of your currently going projects”, offer your help
o Dan approach networking as Relational Capital and it’s all about approaching influencers.
o It’s all about connecting and networking. There’s not a magic pill, it’s just about emailing people and connecting with them. Whatever it takes, connect with people via social media, via emails, in whatever way you can and make good connections.
